A memorable vacation that brings a smile

My family went to Kanu Island with our three sons, their significant others, and our three grandsons.  We’ve never been on an all-inclusive vacation, so we didn’t know what to expect and were absolutely blown away!  Damp cold towels and drinks were presented to us every time we returned to the island from our excursions; the food prepared by Chef Louie was amazing; Villas were beautiful and well kept; and having daily massages (wow!).

The island is beautiful with numerous areas available to entertain.  The staff set up a projector and screen on the beach and even brought us popcorn for the perfect movie night.  It is clear a great deal of thought goes into every aspect of the island and experience.

I strongly recommend snorkeling around the island at least once during your trip, ideally early during your stay since you will likely want to do it again!  (Expect it to take about an hour)  Getting bored of the snorkel trips around the island?  Then I recommend taking a trip to Laughing Bird Caye National Park for a breath-taking snorkeling excursion.

Vacation of a Lifetime

We enjoyed a vacation of a lifetime on Kanu Private Island. Both the property and the staff were absolutely world-class. I can't think of a better place to celebrate life milestones alongside lifelong friends. The food, drinks, and ambience exceeded our expectations. We'll forever measure our group vacations to our time at Kanu, with the bar now set incredibly high.

Exactly what you are looking for

If you’ve ever dreamed of vacationing on a private island with your friends or family, Kanu might be exactly what you’re looking for. From the minute our planes landed in Belize City, and then in Placencia, we were treated like royalty.

We could see the pretty blue roofs of our 5 villas as we approached the island. The Kanu staff of 7, including our boat captain, greeted us at the dock with trays of delightful tropical fruit drinks (with or without rum). Our dream vacation had begun! I can’t describe our excitement and anticipation for the week ahead and we were not disappointed.

Our family took advantage of every activity offered: swimming pool, land and water volleyball, bean bag toss, kayaking, paddle boarding, workout weights, yoga mats, massages, billiards, shelling, and an outdoor movie. We snorkeled all the way around the island every day at least once and went night snorkeling twice. The coral and marine life was abundant, including octopus, angel fish, barracuda, puffers, blue tangs, parrots, princess parrots and nurse sharks. Kory took us fishing several times and we caught grouper, mackerel, bonito, barracuda and various snappers, and our chef prepared them for us.

We took a private, day-long snorkeling excursion with Captain Jaks to Silk and Moho Cayes  where they grilled us a Belizean chicken lunch. They picked us up at the Kanu dock. Great experience!

Chef Louie made a special birthday/anniversary cake for a family celebration at the end of the week, and the staff served us under lights on the beach. It was UnBelizable! They even decorated our villa with anniversary balloons and décor. The island staff offered 3 types of massages each day, kept the island and our villas tidy, did our laundry, and tended to our every need. We were pampered like never before on a vacation.

Reservations Manager Adam McKie and Concierge Heidy Nunez were the two staff from Gecko Vacations we worked with, from making reservations, to organizing travel, menus, excursions, etc. They both answered dozens of questions in a timely manner and helped everything go smoothly.!

Paradise

Our stay on Kanu was literally PARADISE!!!!!!!  The staff was fabulous, the accommodations perfect (I especially loved the showers), the food was gourmet and so delicious, snacks were plentiful, the amenities were amazing and the weather perfect.   I can't imagine any way it could have been any better.  We all had the best time ever and wish we could do it all over again!

We had never rented our own island before so this was a new experience for us. From pre-arrival to departure the team did an incredible job of providing us with an unforgettable island experience.

Unforgettable Experience

The week that we spent on Kanu was unforgettable.  The booking couldn’t have gone smoother.  The concierge helped us to plan all of the details for our stay as well as our pre and post island details.  The staff on the island went above and beyond to make our week memorable.  Ana, our island concierge, helped everything run smoothly.  Jesse, our chef, created many delicious meals.  Ebony and Mallory not only kept our rooms spotless but they gave great massages. "Our trip to Kanu Island was truly amazing!  The island was beautiful, the weather was perfect every day, and it was an incredibly relaxing week.  Having the whole island to ourselves was such a luxury, and Anna and the whole staff made sure that our every need was met.  The chef was able to accommodate several food allergies and preferences without any issue, and we all agreed that every single meal was delicious.  Truly some of the best meals we had ever enjoyed.  We loved relaxing by the pool and under the palapa with our frozen drinks from the bar.  The boat rides to go snorkeling were lots of fun.  Movie night on the beach, and a special birthday dinner for my daughter were hilights as well.  The food, service, and overall experience made it one of, if not the best vacation we have ever taken.  And the two awesome dogs, Morris and Kanu, were super friendly, and added such a fun vibe to the whole experience.  We will definitely be back!" a magical experience for our family

"Our trip to Kanu in March was a magical experience for our family. My research led us to Kanu Private Island as we were looking for a socially-distanced multi-generation private family vacation. Adam was helpful in accommodating our travel requirements and answering our questions throughout the process.

After arrival in Belize City, we were escorted by Kanu staff members through customs and security as we took a small propeller plane to Placencia. We were greeted at the Placencia airport by another Kanu staff member and were taken by golf cart to our boat. The boat ride to the island was ~ 25 minutes and we were greeted on the island with smiles and tasty cocktails!

The ensuing five days and nights provided a relaxing, peaceful, and memorable experience for our family. We developed a close connection with all the staff on the island. They were great at accommodating any dietary restrictions with family members and showed compassion towards our children. In addition to enjoying the pool and daily massages, we took advantage of fishing excursions on our boat, kayaking, movie night on the beach, and roasting marshmallows in the fire pit. We also arranged excursions to enjoy zip lining, river tubing, and waterfalls, as well as a catamaran boat trip with snorkeling. Our children developed a close connection with the two dogs on the island, Morris and Kanu!

We thank everyone for making it an unforgettable experience for our family. We have returned to the United States relaxed and recharged with memories to last a lifetime. I highly recommend Kanu to anyone looking for a private island vacation experience with family or friends!"

All of us really enjoyed our stay on this island!

All of us really enjoyed our stay on this island! The entire trip was really smooth. We arrived early and had just started to get to the Maya counter when Emilio found us. He arranged for us to take an earlier flight to Placencia! Upon arrival, the local staff was waiting and promptly loaded us in the golf carts and took us to the base. Once there, we got on the boat to head for Kanu. Again, ALL WENT WELL!

Anna and the crew were all very friendly and wanted to help us in any way to make our stay.

The massages were a great addition.

Cory took us fishing three times, we got a few fish after learning what to expect on a bite. He also took the group sightseeing to the nearby cayes.

Everything was great

Everything was great, no one has anything negative to say. Food was good, drinks, massages, fishing, snorkeling, and we really enjoyed the island dogs. Both Morris and Kanu are pretty cool dogs that add a really special touch to the island.

We had a fantastic vacation! From the second we landed and passed through immigration, every single detail was perfectly handled! Emilio greeted us at the airport and was so helpful making sure we made our connecting domestic flight without any problems. He was also there to greet us with a huge smile on our return!

The staff on Kanu went above and beyond to exceed our expectations. Anna was there every step of the way to ensure that we took advantage of all that there was to see and do. Kory and Chris were absolutely fantastic! They baited countless hooks, removed fish, answered endless questions from children, and showed us so many amazing things. They even retrieved conchs and had the chefs fry them for us one evening because my son wanted to try one! All of the food was absolutely incredible, and perfectly cooked!

The massages were fantastic, our rooms were spotless, and the sand was always perfectly raked—regardless of how many sandcastles and holes our children had dug the night before. We have traveled to many places and had many different experiences, and this was definitely the best trip we have ever had!

The island is beautiful, and the country is endearing, but it was the Kanu staff that truly made this an unforgettable experience!

We had an amazing trip to Kanu Private Island

“We had an amazing trip to Kanu Private Island. The island is very beautiful. I would look around each day and couldn’t believe how spectacular the views were. Every night the sunsets were gorgeous. Kanu is a little slice of heaven to be so close to the ocean and feel the breeze for a week. We stayed at Kanu with 3 families - 14 people in total. The great room is open air with a palapa roof and we loved hanging out there during the day. The pool is good sized and felt refreshing on a hot day. The bedrooms are very roomy (and air conditioned!) with comfortable beds and each one has a million dollar view of the ocean.

We loved to snorkel, kayak, and paddle board around the island. The ocean was like warm bath water. There is a beautiful healthy reef that surrounds the island. So awesome to have a private reef all to yourself. We saw lots of beautiful reef fish including a nurse shark, octopus, squid, crab, eagle ray, conch, star fish, cucumber, lots of barracuda and sting ray right around Kanu. A magical moment was when a pod of dolphins swam by at sunset while I was out paddle boarding.

Living on a private island for a week is a mind blowing vacation and made even better by such an awesome staff. They were kind, professional and very hard working. We loved the food prepared by Chef Ric. The drinks were heaven. Noe and staff did a great job making sure the island is beautiful and things work well. Jackie and Malrie were awesome with house keeping and daily massages. We had some fun fishing excursions with Kory and explored nearby Laughingbird Caye island.

We loved our vacation at Kanu and can’t wait to return. Thank you for sharing this amazing island!!”

Everyone had an enjoyable time on the island, it’s a great place for a family reunion with plenty of activities to meet anyone’s interests.  The logistics getting from Belize City to the Island and back were excellent, we were met every step by friendly and helpful staff.   On the island the facilities and staff were also excellent, the staff friendly and accommodating at all times.
